New Bike deliveries – April update

The cycle industry is experiencing unprecedented demand with all the signs that it will continue for the foreseeable future. It’s particularly exciting because a large part of the upsurge in demand has been caused by more people turning to cycling, partly thanks to Lockdown but also because more and more of us can see the benefits of cycling for commuting, health, fitness, and the beneficial impact cycling can have on reducing our carbon footprint in the face of significant concerns over climate change.

It is also true that supply-side issues linked to Covid 19 such as delayed shipments from manufactures in the Far East, as well as Brexit and logistics challenges (ships stuck in the Suez Canal for 10 days don’t help!) have played their part in creating a few headaches but those supply-side issues are transitory and should not be overstated. Yes, they are causing us a few head-scratching moments this year but the long-term demand is strong and only set to increase.

To counteract the supply issues, Criterium Cycles took the bold decision last Autumn to order stacks of bikes in 2021 and beyond. They are now arriving in great numbers and this will continue through the Spring and Summer. Below is just a snapshot of what’s coming and when you can expect them. However, we have so many bikes on order it is not possible to showcase everything in one blog post so we’ve just focused on ones with big numbers of bikes coming to Criterium. However, if you don’t see what you are looking for then don’t hesitate to get in touch. You can call us on 0131 663 6220 or email us at [email protected] and we’ll be delighted to help you select your new bike.

Trek Marlin (Hardtail Mountain Bike)

Criterium Cycles - Trek Marlin 7

Looking for an entry-level hardtail Mountain Bike? Then you will really struggle to find anything from any manufacturer that is better than the Trek Marlin. It comes in three main variants – Marlin 5, 6 & 7 (pictured) – though we’ve opted to buy plenty of the Marlin 6 & 7 because we think the little bit of extra money is worth it for the upgraded components. Easy to see why this bike was last year’s mega-seller and will be so again this year.

Trek Emonda (Road Bikes)

Criterium Cycles -Trek Emonda

The previous Emonda was one of the lightest, stiffest, and most responsive bikes we had ever ridden. Paul, one of the owners of Criterium Cycles, rode his Emonda SLR on the Marmotte race in 2020 and said it was the most epic ride of his life. So how to improve it? With an even better Emonda of course! It’s lighter, faster and better in nearly every way. This bike will literally fly up any climb and have you smiling all the time. We have Alloy and Carbon variants coming in all sizes and specs so there’s sure to be one that suits you.

Bianchi Oltre XR3 and XR4 (Road Bikes)

Criterium-CYcles-The-Gorgeous-Bianchi-Oltre-XR4

Founded in 1885, Bianchi is the oldest bike company in continuous operation and is still privately owned. Yet despite all the heritage which includes buidling bikes for some of the greatest bike racers in history, this is a company that is constantly pushing the boundaries of technical R&D to create truly stunning bikes. Their Countervail carbon is breathtaking in its ability to soak up vibration and whether it’s XR3 or XR4 (pictured) this is a true performance bike that is easy to handle. It won’t bite you like some highly strung supercar. Instead, this bike will make you the hero.

Trek Powerfly (E-Bikes)

Criterium Cycles - Trek Powerfly

If there’s one bike that, for us, captures the all-round flexibility and useability of the e-bike then it is probably the Powerfly. It’s not an out and out leisure / commuter bike such as the Allant but it can do so pretty much anything asked of it and do it really well. There are almost too many variants to list – check out our website for details – but you can have Standard models, Sport models and Equipped models as well as Hard Tail and Full Suspension models. Everyone who has bought one of these absolutely loves it. We have customers who have sold their cars as a result of buying a Powerfly which means they have saved far more than they have spent. Now that’s how to do it.
